Summary:

At UNC Health, cloud computing enabled us to modernize and consolidate IT infrastructure, automate workloads, and explore cutting-edge innovations. To support these initiatives, we are seeking an experienced Principal Azure Cloud Infrastructure Architect who will provide leadership across multiple infrastructure teams, define our cloud strategy by selecting the appropriate cloud services, and ensuring the infrastructure meets our business and technical requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud computing infrastructure and services. The Principal Azure Cloud Infrastructure Architect will also research and advise on the latest cloud trends and best practices while collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure successful cloud adoption, security, governance, monitoring, and risk management.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the architect, design, and implement Cloud Platform as a Service to be fault-tolerant against hardware and software failures. Provide auto scalable infrastructure for various application needs and complete performance testing.

• Evaluate and select cloud infrastructure solutions, platforms, and tools based on performance, cost, security, and scalability.

• Lead the creation of cloud-focused governance, standards, building blocks and patterns to ensure deployed solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and cost optimization.

• Demonstrate technical cloud architectural knowledge and play lead role in the design of production, staging, and development of cloud infrastructures running in 24×7 environments.

• Design core Azure components such as RBAC, Policy Assignments and Landing Zones.

• Develop automation scripts, IaC as modules and templates (Terraform, ARM templates, PowerShell scripts) for efficient resource provisioning and deployment.

• Provide leadership and guidance on cloud best practices, trends, and innovations.

• Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Security, Data Platform, DevOps, and Integration Teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment of cloud solutions with new and existing systems and processes.

• Participate/key member of CCOE.

• Lead cloud infrastructure platform team.

• Champion cloud adoption.

• Ensure that cloud infrastructure is optimized for performance and cost.

• Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans.

• Develop and maintain documentation for cloud infrastructure.

• Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, vendors, and partners.

Other Information

Education Requirements:

● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● No licensure or certification required. Azure certifications, Azure Solution Architect Expert preferred

Professional Experience Requirements:

● If a Bachelor's degree: Eight (8) years of a combination of education, certifications, and experience in Azure, Storage, Networking, Compute, or DevOps/Scripting.

● If an Associate's degree: Ten (10) years of a combination of education, certifications, and experience in Azure, Storage, Networking, Compute, or DevOps/Scripting.

● If a High School diploma or GED: Fourteen (14) years of a combination of education, certifications, and experience in Azure, Storage, Networking, Compute, or DevOps/Scripting.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

• Strong understanding across cloud and infrastructure components (server, storage, network, data, and applications) to deliver end to end cloud infrastructure, architectures, and designs

• Knowledge in integrating Azure with on-prem services like AD, DNS, Firewalls, and load balancers with proper integration patterns and architectures

• Working knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, containers, Kubernetes)

• Design and build experience with Azure Policy to enforce organizational standards and to assess compliance

• Strong understanding of Azure networking concepts including VNet Peering, ExpressRoute, Virtual WAN and subnetting

• Design experience with Enterprise scale Landing Zone Architecture

• Experience with cloud security frameworks and tools, such as Azure Security Center, Azure Sentinel, etc.

• Development experience using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and DevOps tooling (GitHub)

• Experience leading large technical initiatives.

• Understanding of high-level cost and resource estimates for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as Service (SaaS) offerings

• Certification in Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent is preferred

• Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
